On-going projects 2025

The Laona project was developed in order to demonstrate to locals and government alike, that mass tourism development was not a solution to the economic problems of the ecologically unique Akamas area, but rather the preservation of its natural beauty and traditional culture. The project, funded by the EU and the A. G. Leventis Foundation, started in 1989. It involved five communities and held surveys and discussions with many more, evolving three years later into the Laona Foundation, which aimed to support the regeneration of rural communities throughout Cyprus, while maintaining their character.

LIFE-AgrOassis Project on regenerative approaches for building climate change resilience into EU agricultural regions prone to desertification (Cyprus-Grete-Thessaly). Funded by LIFE Programme 2022-2026.

AENaON Project on wild edible plants as indicators of biodiversity, local ecological knowledge, and conscious food culture that promotes health. Funded by Interreg Greece-Cyprus, 2025-2027.

NOTE: Laona Foundation is a partner in Project WAT(H)ER: Water Heritage in European Rural Mediterranean, Re (dis)covering water heritage systems to face climate challenges learning from our past, 2026-2030. It has been approved by Interreg Euro Med and awaits contitions and signing of contracts.
