Signing Agreements in Sitia

A public presentation of the LIFE-AgrOassis project took place in Sitia, Crete, on November 22, 2024, on the occasion of signing agreements with seven olive producers from the area who are participating in the collaboration plan with our project.

The Deputy Mayor of Sitia, Mr. Kostis Lymperiou, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the significance of the project and the interest shown by the producers, who collectively allocated 50 hectares of land to the plan—exactly as foreseen for Sitia in the project framework.

Following this, Mr. Vaggelis Perakis, Coordinator of the Sitia Geopark and the Municipality’s representative in the LIFE-AgrOassis project, highlighted the necessity of uncultivated land practices aimed at water conservation.
Online contributions from Cyprus presented the process of creating hedgerows with deep-rooted plants as a measure to support biodiversity and combat erosion, which is about to begin in Sitia.

Mr. Kostas Orountiotis, Assistant Coordinator and Manager of the LIFE-AgrOassis project, participated in person, providing updates on the project’s progress to date. He noted that the project offers solutions to common problems faced by both Crete and Cyprus, such as soil erosion and the threat of desertification.
