LIFE – AgrOassis: Regenerative approaches for building climate change resilience in EU agricultural regions prone to desertification

1st LIFE AgrOassis tree planting event

The first tree planting on agricultural land of the LIFE AgrOassis project took place with great success on December 15 and 16, in collaboration with the Office of the Commissioner for the Environment, the Cyprus Architects Assoiation and the 300,000 Trees in Limassol whom we particularly thank.

More than 300 saplings, shrubs and aromatic plants were planted in the Tersefanou community with the participation of volunteers and the project’s partners in Cyprus.

The innovation of the project’s tree plantings is the use of deep-rooted plants that are grown for the first time in Europe to be specially adapted to drought. The measure aims to re-establish hedgerows on degraded agricultural land to tackle desertification and mitigate the effects of climate change.

We express our warm thanks to the volunteers from various companies and organisations but also to all those who participated independently, contributing the most to our effort.

Starting on December 15, 2023 and until the end of February 2024, organised ensembles are invited to register through the application form.

It is noted that to the tree plantings for this first period only adults can participate, due to the weight of the saplings, in the areas of Denia, Peristerona, Malounda, and Kitiou-Tersefanos. They will continue in the following years and will be completed in 2026. The participants will be sent online special educational material in the form of videos on how to plant.
