LIFE-AgrOassis’ second meeting in Sitia

On October 13 and 14, 2025, the partners of the LIFE-AgrOassis project met in Sitia for their second in-person meeting, hosted and organised by the Municipality of Sitia.

During the meetings, the partner’s reviewed the project’s progress, discussed challenges encountered across all action areas, and presented results from activities implemented in Cyprus, Thessaly, and Crete.

As the project ends its third year of implementation, discussions focused on planting the next steps, improving coordination of monitoring actions, and preparing for the project’s final year.

As part of the two-day meeting, partners also visited agricultural lands in the Sitia region that participate in the project, where hedgerows are being planted as part of the project actions.

The LIFE-AgrOassis project, co-funded by the European Union, focuses on three kay actions to support agriculture to adapt to the impacts of climate change and desertification: applying minimum or no-tilling practices, installing hedgerows on degraded land and establishing two pilot composting units.

The project will be completed by the end of 2026, aiming for its results and lessons learned to serve as a foundation for future actions and policies that enhance the resilience of agricultural sector to climate change.

On behalf of all partners, we express our sincere thanks to our Cretan partners for their warm hospitality, excellent organisation, and for sharing their valuable experiences.

We also thank all partners for their constructive input and collaboration in shaping a common path for the project at this important phase.

The LIFE-AgrOassis consortium includes four departments of the Ministry of Agriculture (Agricultural Research Institute, and the Departments of Environment, Agriculture, and Forests), KES Research Centre, Laona Foundation, Open University of Cyprus, University of Thessaly, Union of Cypriot Farmers, Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, Paradisiotis Ltd, the Municipality of Sitia, and the Local Land Improvement Organisation (TOEB) of Tavropou, Karditsa.
