On 3 February, the Senior Police Adviser of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Assistant Police Commissioner Satu Koivu, participated with members of the Force in a tree planting event organised within the framework of the LIFE AgrOassis project on agricultural land in the community of Denia. During the day, 160 deep-rooted saplings and bushes were planted.
Senior Police Adviser Koivu welcomed the initiative and in the presence of the president of Denia, Mr. Christakis Panagiotou, expressed her pleasure to support Cypriot communities in the buffer zone in relation to the protection of the environment, the limitation of poaching and illegal logging, as well as the prevention of fires. She also emphasised the importance of tree planting and warmly thanked the project team for organising it and the volunteers for their engagement.
Mr. Panagiotou in turn thanked UNFICYP for their active participation and welcomed the actions of the project within his community. He also pledged that the community would actively contribute to the implementation of hedgerow development on the selected agricultural land within its boundaries.
In turn, we express our warm thanks to UNFICYP, and the volunteers from the community for their important contribution.
